My Bucket list of Storms is Complete…I hope!

Let’s see, I’ve been through: A Earthquake, A Blizzard and A Tornado, but never, ever A Hurricane, and thanks to Hurricane Sandy, my Bucket List of Storms is Complete!

I live in Central New York and we never have hurricanes. This is a first. Yes, we might have some winds and alittle rain from one off the east coast, but never this far in. I guess that’s why they are calling it “The Frankenstorm( halloween theme and it’s so big).

We are use to Blizzards and Lake Effect Snow. Hardly a winter  without one.(except for last winter where I ony snowblowed once..that was a freaky winter). A few tornado’s…sometimes, but like I said, never a Hurricane.

So, is this house prepared? You bet! Even went out yesterday and bought a generator. We have flashlights, batteries, food I don’t have to cook for a few days and gas in the car. Why do you ask, if you’re asking, are we so prepared? My husband is “OCD” about things like this! When he told me yesterday that he wanted to buy a generator, I was like, “why?”..then he told me that, if the power does go out, they’re not going to come and fix our little area, they are going to the bigger area’s first and we could be without power for days…made sense to me, hence the generator.

I pray for all the people up and down the east coast and Central New York and everywhere else this “monster storm” is going and I hope people didn’t take this lightly and are prepared!

So, come on “Sandy”, let’s see if you’re the “Frankenstorm” they are talking about! And prayers to all!

Dear People Next Door

Dear People next door: As you know, I have been “tweeting” and  “facebooking” about you since my kindly neighbor, Beth, aka: “Mrs.Kravitz( I named her this after the character on the tv show Bewitched, because, well, you know why..) passed away.

It started slowly, like letting your lawn grown into a forrest of green, making me post about it and finally complaining to the real estate lady, who didnt care, forcing me to call codes on you. Then you mowed it. Well done, well done.

Then it started with me posting about the tarp you put over the garage, that was getting ripped by the wind and pieces were flying into my yard…I complained, you fixed it. Well done again!
Then, the endless people, marching thru your lawn, which is connected to my lawn, dropping their garbage along the way, while looking at the  house wondering: “Honey, do you think this is a nice place to bring up little Johnny?”, I posted it, you stopped, life was good..

Then one sunny day, asI was pulling into my driveway after work, I see a U-Haul Van and 20 cars, pulling tons of “Mrs Kravitz’s” stuff out..I thought to myself: “Holy crap, she had alot of crap and why are they doing this?” The next day,20 more cars, loads of crap and me wondering…  Then another sunny day(seems all this happened on a sunny day), I pull into my driveway after work and I notice the for sale sign is gone! What??? Could this be true? Someone actually bought “Mrs. Kravitz’s” house? What the heck? Who are these people? Would they be nice? Would they be freaks like the other neighbors on the other side of my house(that is a whole other blog and I’m blocked from seeing them by bushes)My life was turned upside down!!

So, My advice to you, New People Next door: 1: Mow your lawn regularly, because I kinda like that and I can be mean. 2: Don’t mess with my dogs. I have 4 nice dogs, they happen to not like little kids too much(previous experience) and that’s why I keep them in their fence yard. So please tell “little Johnny” or  “little Suzy”, don’t bug the dogs. 3: That’s about it. Oh yeah, remember, I will “tweet” and “facebook” about you and it will be under the title: “Dear NEW People Next Door.  Poor “Mrs Kravitz(beth) I do miss your “wacky” ways!

Halloween: Let’s Talk Candy

Halloween. That time of year when little children dress up as “little monsters” or “super hero’s” and go door to door for FREE CANDY! Who wouldn’t like this? So, I decided to share with you my top 5 “like” candy and my top 5 “dis-like” candy.

                                      My Top 5 “Like” Candy

#5: M and M’s Peanuts: Who doesn’t like chocolate wrapped around a peanut in different colors? This girl does! I like to separate the different colors, while eating the chocolate first and saving the peanut for last. It’s just something I like to do.

#4: Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups:  2 for 1! 2 pieces of candy in one package! Chocolate and Peanut Butter, a match made in candy heaven. You can eat it cold or eat it warm. “Lushish!”

#3: Kit Kat Bar: Another 2 for 1! A chocolate covered cookie! I love chocolate and I love cookies! A win win for me.

#2 : Snickers Bar: Aww Snickers, how do I love thee? I love your chocolate covered peanuts, with a hint of caramel. I love you as a Ice Cream Bar too!

#1: My most ‘like” candy is a simple one. One that brings me back to my childhood on Sunday mornings, when my Grandfather would come over and give us this candy and a dollar bill. I’m talking about the “Hershey’s Chocolate Bar.” I would run upstairs and sit on my bed and break each piece so carefully and eat them one by one, while my brother and sisters would eat theirs all at once! Silly fools! Enjoy the candy, because that’s the only candy we got as a kid!

                                        My Top 5 “Dis-Like” Candy

#5: Sour Gummy Worms: What the heck?! Why waste a good gummy worm with all that sour stuff on it? How can you eat it? Just gross!

#4: Milky Way Bar: I don’t like the chocolate and I dont like the stuff inside! What is that stuff anyway?

#3: Three Musketeer’s Bar: See #4, same thing!

#2: NECCO’s Wafer Candy: Sorry NECCO, I dont get it! It tastes like cardboard and I dont care what color it is!

#1: Keeping with the Halloween theme, my most “dis-like” candy is the “fruitcake” of candy. The one and only Candy Corn! Again, what is it? I get that it’s shaped like a piece of corn, but, what is it? My friend told me today that she LIKES candy corn! That it’s FUN to eat! She would eat the brown part first, then the orange and save the little white piece and pretend it was a tooth and tell her friends that she lost a tooth. Sure, sounds fun, but, what is it?

Well, that’s it. I hope you liked my choices of candy. Let me know your’s!

                                      Happy Halloween!

Television: Why I’m Starting to Like You

Aww television. The mindless box that projects pictures and sounds while we go about our business. For me, it’s a background noise, while i clean the house or I’m on the computer. I usually stick to three channels: History, Food Network and Discovery.

You see, I’m a “reality tv” kinda girl. I love Big Brother, and can’t imagine my summers without it. When “Glass House” came on ABC, I thought: “such a BB rip off”..but I got sucked in.

I love “Survivor”. I always wonder: “do I have what it takes to survive? No, I don’t. But i was sucked in.I have love “American Idol” from the very beginning. With, Randy and his “dawgs:”, to Paula and her “wacky wit”,to Simon with his “honesty”. I turned in every week. Even with Steven, JLo and Randy, I still turned in. But alas, all good things must come to a end, and i see this in Idol’s future. Some of the “new” judges are not up to My Idol standards and I think Idol peaked last year with Philip Phillips winning it all…(note: i picked him from the audtitions, just saying)

While surfing though the guide on my tv on certain nights, I discovered “regular” tv again and I would like to share with you some of the new shows of the fall that I have found.

The New Normal: airs on NBC Tuesdays at 9: this comedy is centered around a gay couple who are having a baby with a surrogate and how the families stay close. The cast includes: Andrew Rannells and Justin Bartha(aka: david and bryan),Georiga king, as Goldie, the surrogate with a daughter and a crazy grandmother, played by Ellen Barkin, who I love and is the “new Archie Bunker” of our time. The cast rounds out with BeBe Wood and NeNe Leaks. The whole cast just fits right together and tells the story of their lives and what is a family anyway. They deal with drama and comedy in a way that made me smile.

Go On: airs on NBC on Tuesdays at 9: this comedy stars Mathew Perry, as Ryan King, radio sportscaster, who’s forced to attend a mandatory group therapy to deal with the loss of his wife. Oh Mattew Parry, how I’ve loved you! Since the first time i saw you as a troubled youth on Beverly Hills 90210, and your loveable character of Chandler Bing on friends. But this is a mature Mathew, dealing with a serious loss, but still charming as ever. The rest of the cast is great too. They tear at your heart, while dealing with their losses in each their own way, which is sometimes funny. This is a show to watch.

Guys with Kids: air on NBC Wednesday at 8:30. NBC is on a roll this season. Created by Jimmy Fallon, this show is about 30 something dads, who are still kids at heart, struggling as parents. It reminds me of “friends, but friends with kids”. The cast is relatable to ever parent in the world. The day to day struggles of raising kids in this day and time. The cast includes: Anthony Anderson,Charlie Grady, Zach Gregger, Tempestt Bledsoe and Jamie Lynn Sigler. They are all very likeable and talented. I heard a rumor that NBC was going to pull this show, so I felt it was my duty to write them and tell them to give this show a chance and let others get to love it as much as I did. I also reminded them that “Seinfeld” stunk the first two seasons and look what happend there! It’s worth checking out if you want to laugh.

Revolution: airs on Mondays at 10 on NBC. Our entire life depends on electricity, so what happens one day when the whole world goes dark. This drama is a nail bitting adventure that reminds me alittle of :”Lost” but has flashbacks for you to follow on what happended before the power went out. The journey to find out why and how to fix the problem. The cast includes: Tracy Spiridakos, David Lyons, and Billy Burke, just to name a few. I’m not really a “drama” kinds of person, but this show has me hooked.

Finally, my “soap opera” pick: Nashville: airs on Wednesdays at 10 on ABC. Tells the story of two country music stars: a icon, who’s trying to re-invent herself and a up and coming Diva. This show is filled with all the things that we love in a soap opera: lies, cheating, and country music. Starring Connie Britton as Raynna Jaymes, reining queen of country music and Hayden Panettiere as Juliette Barnes, up and coming diva.

So there you have it. My picks of the new fall show that i will watch. Don’t worry, I’ll still be watching the train wreck of “honey boo boo” and “married to Jonas” because, after all, I’m a reality tv kind of girl!
